Truncation is like a wildcard. Added to the stem of a word, it will find that stem plus anything that comes after it.

The symbol used to truncate a word depends upon the index, database, or Web search engine you are using:

	psychol$	$ (dollar sign) is used in the NEOS Library catalogue will return records on psychology, psychological, psychologist
	environ*	* (asterisk) is used in Academic Search Premier will return records on environment, environments, environmental

To find out what symbol is used for truncation in a specific database, check that database's Help or Search Help feature.
